My name is Zulay, though most people know me as Zuly. I was born in Colombia, and today I am a wife, a mother of two, and the heart behind Zulys Bakery Cafe Bistro in Fredericksburg, Texas.
My journey has been shaped by movement, faith, and service. In 2006, life led me to Venezuela, where I worked as a business administrator and served as a youth pastor in Caracas. It was there that I met my husband, originally from Idaho, who had arrived as a missionary. Over time, our paths became one, and we built a life centered on faith, family, and calling.
Years later, with two children and many experiences behind us, we felt called to settle in Fredericksburg, Texas, a place we now proudly call home. Today, Zulys Bakery Cafe Bistro stands as a reflection of that journey, rooted in purpose and built to serve others through handcrafted food and meaningful experiences.

From a young age, I found joy in creating with my hands. The kitchen became a place of calm, expression, and purpose. Over time, that passion grew into a deep love for artisanal baking, especially croissants and laminated pastries.

This slow, intentional process is what defines true artisan baking. It is not rushed, and it is never improvised. It is within these layers that I found my voice.
Our bakery is inspired by a blend of traditions that guide everything we create. From Germany, we embrace discipline and respect for the craft. From France, we practice the art of lamination and refined pastry technique. From Colombia, we bring warmth, flavor, and hospitality into every experience.

A Calling That Became a Bakery
When we first arrived in the United States, I entered a season of quiet searching. I did not speak the language, I did not know anyone, and I often felt disconnected. One day, in prayer, a single word brought clarity and direction: “cake.”
In that moment, I understood that I could turn my love for baking, art, and service into something that could also serve others.
At first, I baked simply to give. Each creation was practice, a lesson, and an offering. Over time came the first orders, the first sales, and the opportunity to invest in better tools. Every step forward was taken with faith and gratitude.
